In case you have a black bear on your property or see one in Glover Park, here is some advice from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA).
Black Bears are typically shy and avoid people. Making noise (normal conversation) while walking will alert them and they will usually move away. If you come into close contact, yell, clap your hands, and move slowly away. Never approach a bear intentionally.
Keep dogs on leash when off your property. Do not let your dog chase bears. Bears will attack dogs that come at them.
They are attracted to bird feeders and garbage cans. So, remove attractions if possible. If they are going after your garbage, securing the cans and pouring a half cup of bleach in or around the can will help keep them away.
If the bear becomes a continuous nuisance, call the USDA at 715-369-5221.
