Free Workshop – Nitrate Screening

St. Croix County is offering a free workshop that combines a traditional nitrate screening clinic with an engaging lineup of expert presentations.

Residents are invited to drop off water samples for free nitrate screening and stay to learn more about nitrates in the County. The workshop will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the St. Croix County Agriculture Services & Education Center. From 1–3 p.m., speakers will cover topics ranging from local nitrate trends and health implications to testing, treatment options, and county-level conservation practices. Water screening will be available from 1–4:30 p.m.

  • Patty Schrank, Water Resource Specialist – Overview of nitrates in St. Croix County

  • Genevieve Palazzolo, Public Health Strategist – Health implications of nitrates 

  • Cayla Cavey, Groundwater Specialist – Nitrate testing and treatment options 

  • Tim Stieber, Land and Water Conservation Administrator – County conservation efforts addressing nitrates 

To have your water screened for nitrates, participants are asked to bring in about eight ounces of water in a closed container, preferably glass, collected within 24 hours of the event. Results are available on the spot.
