PUBLIC NOTICE: SCAM ALERT FRAUDULENT LOCAL GOVERNMENT BILLING INVOICES

Scammers have targeted local property owners and businesses by emailing fraudulent invoices that impersonate local government billing from departments such as planning commission, zoning, or public works.

How to Identify Official Town of Troy Communications:

  • All real emails from town staff end strictly in tn.troy.wi.gov. Be highly suspicious of any communication coming from public addresses like gmail.com, yahoo.com, or slightly altered domains that claim to be from the Town.
  • Payment Methods: The Town of Troy does not accept payments or fees via cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or digital apps like Venmo or Zelle.
  • Delivery Method: All Town of Troy billing is handled through U.S. Postal Service mail or directly through the clerk’s office, never via email or text messages.

What You Should Do If You Receive a Suspicious Bill:

  1. DO NOT Respond: Do not click on any links, scan QR codes, or download attachments from unrecognized emails.
  2. Verify Directly with the Town: Check the validity of the bill by contacting the Town of Troy Clerk/Treasurer Office directly at (715) 425-2665, extension 102. You can also verify by visiting during normal office hours (Monday–Thursday, 9:00 AM–2:00 PM) at Town Hall, 654 Glover Road, Hudson, WI.
  3. Report the Fraud: If you have been targeted or lost money to a scammer, report it immediately to the St. Croix County Sheriff’s Department non-emergency dispatch line at (715) 386-4701.
